NTL supplies four new trams for the Clermont-Ferrand metro area
NTL, a subsidiary of Alstom and BPIFrance, received on October 15, 2015 notice from the public transit authority (SMTC) of Clermont-Ferrand, France for the order of four new Translohr trams, to add to its fleet of tramways on tyres.
The €14.8 million order includes not just the supply of four Translohr STE4 (32 m) trams, but also the first stage of the programme to upgrade the ergonomics of the driver’s cabs and various equipment, which shall be applied to the entire Clermont-Ferrand fleet. The four new trams will raise the number in service in Clermont-Ferrand to 30.
Operational since 2006, the Clermont-Ferrand line was the first to use Translohr tramways on tyres. Each day, it carries over 65,000 passengers, and has traveled over 10 million kilometers in nearly 10 years.
